Novel Reactive Power Control Strategy for Active Load Balancer in Three-phase Four-wire Distribution Systems

In this paper, we propose a novel reactive power control strategy to reduce the power rating of ALB. The proposed reactive power control strategy is based on constant DC capacitor voltage control. Therefore, balanced source currents with predefined power factor are achieved without using unbalanced active and reactive components calculation of the load currents. The basic principle of proposed reactive power control strategy is discussed in detail and confirmed by reduced scale experimental system. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed control strategy can reduce power rating of the ALB balancing the source-side currents.
